The Peace Corps is a volunteer program run by the United States government. Each Peace Corps Volunteer, is an American citizen who commits to working abroad in a given country for a period of twenty-seven months. Generally, the work to be performed is related to international development. Projects in the Peace Corps may include education, business, information technology, agriculture, and the environment. The mission of the Peace Corps includes three goals:
- Helping the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women.
- Helping promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served.
- Helping promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.
